Open .wtv and .dvr-ms files on Windows 10 and 11

Media Center recording files come from Windows Media Center (2005 to 2015). Filixir opens them without the original program. Recorded TV shows: play them and save them as MP4 with the media add-on.

How to open one

  1. Download Filixir. It's free for Windows 10 and 11 and installs without an administrator password.
  2. Double-click your .wtv file, or right-click it and choose Open with › Filixir. You can also drag it onto Filixir.
  3. The first time, Filixir offers to download its free media add-on (the VLC engine) from its makers. It takes a minute and only happens once.
  4. Look through it in Filixir, then save it in the format you want. Your original file is never changed.
